DETECTIVES HUNTING a gunman who opened fire on the home of a terrified family in Telford have recovered two bullets from the scene.

Officers also revealed that the gunshots were fired from a silver hatchback which was driven along Leicester Way, in Leegomery, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two men, one in his 20s and one in his 40s, were arrested following the incident and taken to Malinsgate Police Station for questioning.

They have since been released on police bail.

But another man, also in his 20s, has been charged with making threats to kill and intimidation of a witness or juror following a separate incident of disorder at the same property on Thursday night, where a gang wielding baseball bats turned up and police were called. He was due to appear at Telford Magistrates' Court today.

Superintendent Gary Higgins, of Telford police, said: "Police are continuing with their investigation into the incident on Leicester Way.

"It has been established that at least four shots were fired, of which two bullets have been recovered.

"They have been sent off for forensic analysis. The area is still cordoned off while police carry out their investigations."

Mr Higgins urged the community to stay calm after revealing they believed the shooting was linked to a previous assault and was not a random attack.

He added: "As part of the investigation we are looking for the vehicle involved in the incident which is described as a silver hatchback.

"The incident which we believe is linked to an historic assault and has caused tension between groups of people is being treated very seriously by officers.

"We would like to reassure members of the community that incidents of this nature are rare and we will continue to carry out inquiries to catch those responsible and bring them to justice."

Neighbours were woken in the early hours of Saturday morning after hearing shots.

Armed police and sniffer dogs descended on the normally quiet cul-de-sac.
