Welshpool Town Council plans to open the street market every Monday

Councillor Alan Crowe said it would be up and running from next Monday after plans had been in the pipeline for months.

Councillor Crowe said he believed the market, based along Broad Street, would help add to the town's trade.

"It will provide a real boost for Welshpool and we are looking forward to seeing the town when it's in place. The town hasn't had a street market for a number of years, so it will be nice to see it return," he said.

Mayor of Welshpool, Councillor Estelle Bleivas said she was extremely happy that the street market would be arriving back in the town.

"We haven't had a street market in Welshpool for years and I'm just so thrilled that the town will now be having one again," she said.

"Hopefully it well help boost the town's trade and give it a bit more variety and it will also bring a bit of history back into the town.

"We're going to start off with only a few stalls at first and just see how it goes. We do have a waiting list but want to take things slowly at first and build on it."
