A woman was left with a bloody nose after being punched in the face in a town centre attack following an earlier road rage incident in north Shropshire, police revealed today.
The victim was supervising her 17-year-old son driving their Fiat Panda from Hodnet towards Wem on Friday morning.
A blue Ford Galaxy people carrier, driven by a man and containing a female passenger and two young children, reportedly began to tailgate and act in an aggressive and intimidating manner.
After crossing the A49, the victim told her son to pull over to let the Ford pass. It did so and the man and woman are alleged to have made further intimidating and insulting gestures as they overtook.
Shortly afterwards, at about 9am, the victim saw the Ford parked in Leek Street, Wem, and verbally challenged the female about their earlier actions.
The male driver is then believed to have kicked the victim's Fiat, before getting in his vehicle and driving away.
As the victim went to call the police, she was punched from behind by the woman and knocked to the ground, suffering a bloody nose.
The offender then ran across the Co-Op car park to where the Ford had stopped and got in, before the vehicle drove off.
Constable Dave Carpenter, who is investigating the incident, said: "We have already spoken to some of those who witnessed the assault but are keen to hear from anyone else who was in the area at the time and saw what happened."
