People in Shropshire will be able to enjoy Easter egg hunts, fun fairs and melodies from a gospel choir over the bank holiday weekend.

With sunshine forecast for the holiday period, crowds are expected to be out and about enjoying a range of events on offer across the county. Oswestry will host an Easter fun day at the Bailey Head and Powis Hall markets from 9am tomorrow. The free event includes a magician, children's rides and an Easter egg hunt.

Market manager David Clough said: "We are sure families will enjoy a visit to our markets on Friday, there will be something for everyone."

There will also be a special event in the town to mark the opening of the new £1.5 million McLarens complex in the Cambrian Works Building in Gobowen Road.

Held on Sunday and Monday from noon each day, children's rides, market stalls and live music will be on offer. A firework display will round off the fun in the early evening on Monday.

The Quarry Park fun fair in Shrewsbury will be running across the Easter break, with gates open between 2pm and 8pm.

Entry to the site is free and a crowd of about 3,000 is expected by organisers for Saturday, when the price of rides will be just 50p.

Seven rides are running at the fun fair, including dodgems and a ghost train. It will be closed on Easter Sunday.

Those looking to mark Easter in a more traditional manner can visit Ludlow Castle on Monday to take part in an egg decorating day between 10am to 4pm.

Another Easter egg trail will be held at Whittington Castle on Sunday and Monday, costing £1 per child.

On Saturday in Ludlow, the London African Gospel Choir will be performing at the Assembly Rooms from 8pm. Tickets for the two-hour show cost £17.50.

Those who want to enjoy a tipple or two can visit the 30th Telford Beer Festival at the Crown Inn in Oakengates, which is due to get under way on tomorrow and run until May 2. More than 50 new beers will be available for fans to try.

The Salopian Bar in Shrewsbury will also be running a Pale Ale Festival from today up until Easter Day, with live music planned for tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
