Users of the drug GHB could suffer from withdrawal symptoms if they trying coming off it without medical supervision, they were warned today.

Shropshire experts today urged those trying to wean themselves off the drug to seek help from the county's community misuse team.

They said recent publicity over the death of Gareth Jones, of Shrewsbury, who had taken GHB, might encourage other people to stop using it.

A combined campaign by Shropshire Council, the police and health and community organisations aims to tackle its use in the town.

The council's drug and alcohol team leader Jayne Randall said only a very small minority was using the drug.

She said: "Withdrawal from the drug can be very unpleasant. It should only be done under medical supervision."

Shropshire's Community Substance misuse team runs a drop-in centre above the Citizens Advice Bureau in Arthur Street in Oswestry every Friday from 11am until 1pm.
