More than £2,000 worth of cannabis was discovered in a raid carried out by police on a Telford property today. Officers found 20 plants and other drugs paraphernalia, including a hydroponics system in the raid.

It was carried out at a home in Brandsfarm Way in Randlay as part of a separate investigation which saw police call at the property at about 9am.

A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Inspector Paul Franks, of Telford Police, said the discovery was the result of some excellent policing work.

He said: "Officers visited the address to carry out inquiries in relation to another matter.

"But following some excellent detective work, the officers discovered a small hydroponics set-up, with around 20 small plants growing.

"Police are still at the scene dismantling the unit," he continued.

"When this has been completed, the plants and the hydroponics system will be seized and taken away for further examination.

"Targeting people involved in the use of and supply of drugs is a top priority for us.

"So today's discovery is to be welcomed."
