Anglers are hiding in trees to illegally fish for koi carp and goldfish in a pool at a Midlands park sparking fears over the future of wildlife found at the spot.

Fishing is not allowed at King George VI Park, Kingswinford, but members of the town's model boat club who sail their craft at the site, say an increasing number of people are flouting the rules.

Members say they are concerned for the wildlife which visits the pool and have urged Dudley Council, which says it is aware of the problem, to take action.

The only fishing allowed at council-run sites is at Fens Pool and H imley Park.

Club treasurer Paul Newman "They hide in the trees to fish but a lot of them are now just doing it out in the open. They don't seem to care about being caught. It has become a real problem. We are worried it is endangering the wildlife especially the birds. There is a lot of fish in the pond but the number will get less and less if people keep fishing there."
