A Telford golfer will captain the England team at this summer's disabled golfing World Team Cup.

Tony Lloyd, 40, of Furnace Lane, Trench, who is a sales coordinator with Swish Window and Door Systems, was born with arms ending at the elbows.

But he has overcome adversity to finish third two years in a row at the British Open.

He will now lead England's 12-strong team at the four-day event starting on July 15 in Glasgow, which features teams from across the globe.

Mr Lloyd, who plays at Horsehay Village Golf Centre, said: "It's a fantastic honour to lead the England team out. It's one of the biggest events in the disabled golfing calendar and attracts players from as far afield as the US and Canada to Pakistan.

"It's run on a similar format to the Ryder Cup with four teams including a world team, each with 12 players, it's a fantastic setting and should be a superb event.

"I play at least 99 per cent of my golf at Horsehay and as the only disabled golfer play against able-bodied opponents but despite that have still managed to record a few club competition wins."

Mr Lloyd is looking for additional sponsorship and support from businesses in the region. For more details visit www.tonylloy dgolf.co.uk or ring 0808 178 3040.
