Shropshire Council has received more than 250 comments about the plans which would see a store being built in Edgeley Park and the existing White Lion Meadow one being turned into a convenience shop.

As part of the Edgeley Park redevelopment, the town's rugby and hockey club will be redeveloped.

Campaigners against the proposal want Tesco to redevelop its existing store, fearing a move out of town would kill the high street.

Those in support of the project say it will bring much-needed retail competition into the town which will also benefit from improvements made to the rugby and hockey club.

Tesco's Sophie Akokhia said they wanted to develop a spacious store with a wider range of quality products.

Rival Sainsbury's has also lodged a plan for a store off London Road.
