The incident happened shortly after 5pm on Monday in King Street after the victim got out of his Volvo lorry to ask the car driver to reverse and let him pass. Witnesses were left shocked when the driver of the Golf suddenly accelerated and ran straight into the man before smashing into the lorry's offside, mounting the pavement and racing off in the direction of the train station.

Officers hope the footage will provide vital clues to help them identify the driver of a black Volkswagen Golf who mowed down a lorry driver in front of horrified onlookers and then sped off.

The incident happened shortly after 5pm on Monday in King Street after the victim got out of his Volvo lorry to ask the car driver to reverse and let him pass.

Witnesses were left shocked when the driver of the Golf suddenly accelerated and ran straight into the man before smashing into the lorry's offside, mounting the pavement and racing off in the direction of the train station.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds today said: "We are still looking to speak to the driver of the black Volkswagen Golf and are currently studying CCTV footage of the incident.

"We are also still speaking to witnesses, but would also appeal to anyone else who has information about the incident and has not yet contacted police to come forward."

The 32-year-old lorry driver, who has not been named, suffered facial and pelvic injuries and was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Mr Ammonds said the man's condition was not life threatening but he remained in hospital today.
