A 35-YEAR-OLD man who suffered serious head injuries when he was struck by a van while out running with his dog in Telford has died in hospital, police said today.

The man was running along Hill Road, Donnington, just after 6am on July 11 when he was involved in a collision with a white Transit van, which was being driven in the same direction.

He was taken to Telford's Princess Royal Hospital with serious head injuries and later transferred to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, where he died yesterday.

Police said today the man had not yet been named. The coroner has been informed.

Police said officers were continuing to investigate the cause of the collision and today issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to come forward to help with the inquiry.

Witnesses

Constable Garry Moody said: "Inquiries are continuing into the cause of the collision and we really need to identify any potential witnesses. In particular we would like to hear from anybody who saw the man out running with his dog from the direction of The Humbers towards Kinnersley.

"We also want to hear from anybody who saw the white Transit van, which was travelling in the same direction as the man out running, either prior to the collision or who saw the collision itself."

Telford police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield said the white Transit van was travelling from the direction of the Humbers, towards Kinnersley, when it was involved in the collision with the man.

Both lanes leading from Newport Road to the A518 junction were closed during rush hour traffic as emergency services worked at the scene following the incident.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said an ambulance was sent to the scene and took a patient to the Princess Royal. Anyone with information about the incident, or has any information which could help with the investigation, is asked to contact Constable Moody on 0300 333 3000.
