A public consultation has been launched on plans to build more than 100 homes on the site of a former Tesco store in Shrewsbury.

Taylor Wimpey is hoping to build 106 properties on the site in Arlington Way, with 14 designated as affordable homes.

It has now lodged an official planning application with Shropshire Council, with members of the public being given the chance to have their say on the proposals until August 5.

A report prepared on behalf of Taylor Wimpey by the Halcrow Group says: "The proposed development will significantly improve and regenerate a brownfield site that has been derelict for a considerable amount of time.

"Positive steps have been taken to ensure the site complements and contributes to the surrounding urban character and environment."

The properties would range from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom detached homes.
