People living in Shropshire and thinking about introducing a dog to the family home have been urged to visit a new £5 million plus centre in the county.

Wrekin MP Mark Pritchard was at the official reopening of the Dogs Trust Shrewsbury centre in Roden, Telford, which has undergone a 14-month transformation. He praised staff for the work they did saving animals left homeless.

He said: "It's a fantastic facility, one of the most environmentally friendly in the county and it's great news it has been built in Shropshire.

"It's one of the biggest centres in the country which has looked after thousands of dogs and provides dozens of local jobs.

"I would urge local people considering buying a dog to first come here rather than a puppy farm. Most of the dogs have been house trained already and would be a fantastic family pet."
