The deadline for comments on Tesco's controversial third attempt to enter Tenbury Wells has been extended by 18 days.

Council chiefs have moved the closing date for consultations from October 3 to October 21 ahead of a crunch planning meeting in November.

Councillor Phil Grove, leader of Malvern Hills District Council, said the change was designed to allow residents a say on the plans for a 15,000 square feet store.

The supermarket giant says the store would create 150 jobs and revitalise the town, but opponents have claimed it would damage trade for existing shop owners.

Mr Grove said: "We recognise that this is a major application and with many plans and documents to read through we feel it is important to let residents know they still have time to comment.

The plan is likely to go before the northern area development control committee on November 2.
