A £170,000 land sale deal to pave the way for a new £1 million medical practice in Cleobury Mortimer has been agreed.

Cleobury Mortimer Parish Council voted to accept an offer for land at the town's former Muller England site from developer Matrix Medical at an extraordinary meeting last night.

The decision was met with prolonged applause by 40 residents at the meeting.

The parish council will get £103,000 in exchange for the land, with a further £67,000 being used to pay for Matrix Medical's 'abnormal costs' for accessing and clearing the site.

In a double boost for the town, the meeting heard rival developers Blue Square Commercial had started talks with Shropshire Council over plans to build a nursing home at Cleobury Precision Engineering site.

Councillor Gwilym Butler said: "There is now a huge opportunity for Cleobury Mortimer to have a new medical practice and for the Cleobury Precision Engineering site to be developed to provide facilities that are desperately needed."
