Councillors in Whitchurch have unanimously backed plans to celebrate next year's Queen's Diamond Jubilee with the town's first carnival in about eight years.
They said the event would be a great way for the town to join in with the royal celebrations and said it would give residents something to look forward to.
The town's previous annual carnival was axed because of spiralling costs and lack of volunteers to help stage the event. But last night Whitchurch Town Council members backed carnival plans.
They are to arrange a meeting in the Civic Centre to take them forward at a date to be arranged.
