More than 100 Young Farmers in Shropshire canoed the length of the River Severn as part of a charity challenge.

Members of Shropshire Young Farmers took to the water last Saturday and Sunday to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

People aged between 15 and 27 from 16 different clubs in Shropshire paddled their way around the course in teams for a period of 20 hours over the two days.

They set off from Melverley, making their way through Shrewsbury and Ironbridge before completing the course in Bewdley on Sunday evening.

Lucy Stokes, county chairman of the organisation, said: "We all pushed ourselves to complete the physical challenge but also managed to have a good time as well. It all went brilliantly – until I got thrown in the river at the end.

"Thanks to all the canoers, Drummond Outdoor, the wonderful helpers and our riverside supporters."

She will hand over a donation to Cancer Research on November 12 at a presentation evening in the Lord Hill Hotel in Shrewsbury.

"I hope the total donation from this canoe challenge, our recent concert, and other fundraising events, will be around £10,000, which would be excellent," she said.
