Samurai sword wounding case sent to crown court

The case against a 28-year-old man accused of using a samurai sword to wound another man in Whitchurch has been sent to crown court.

David Howard Nicholls, of North Street, Shrewsbury, is charged with causing malicious and unlawful wounding by causing grievous bodily harm on Andrew Hipkiss and possessing a bladed article in a public place, namely a samurai sword.

Nicholls appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court on Friday relating to an alleged incident which happened at Watergate shopping arcade in Whitchurch at about 4pm on Tuesday.

The violence allegedly erupted after an altercation between two women.

The incident left a 26-year-old man with head and hand injuries.

Nicholls will appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on October 10 and magistrates granted him conditional bail, preventing him from going to Whitchurch.
