A 37-year-old man was given an indeterminate prison sentence today after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in a Telford alley.
Slawomir Wilczarski, of King Street, Wellington, will serve a minimum of five years and six months for public protection and was put on the sexual offenders register at a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Jurors unanimously recorded a guilty verdict on Wilczarski at Shrewsbury Crown Court in August.
The court heard a woman in her early 30s had been walking alone on a footpath at the rear of St Agathas Close, in Dothill, early on January 23.
Wilczarski rode up from behind her on a bicycle and pushed her to the floor.
She was then sexually assaulted.
A resident heard a commotion and went to her aid.
Sentencing Wilczarski today Judge Michael Dudley said he presented 'a very significant risk of causing very significant harm to the public in general'.
Following the hearing, Detective Sergeant Mark Jones said: "I am very satisfied with the sentence Wilczarski has received and it is reassuring to know that he will behind bars for some considerable time.
"I hope the sentence acts as some small consolation for the victim and her family as they now know this man will be off the streets for the foreseeable future."
He added that 'two courageous members of the public' had been been awarded £250 for their actions in helping the victim.
