Part of a Wellington primary school was cordoned off this afternoon after a 30m long wall collapsed.

The 6m high wall at the back of Dothill Primary School, on Severn Drive, gave way at about 11.15am today.

Ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene but no-one was injured.

Nigel Newman, a spokesman for Telford & Wrekin Council, said: "This morning a section of perimeter wall at the rear of Dothill Primary School's playground collapsed into a grassed area outside the school's grounds."

He added: "Telford & Wrekin Council is now assessing the remaining wall and any safety issues. Until this has been completed and to ensure the safety of everyone at the school, access to the school's playground and the adjacent public land will be restricted and people will be kept a safe distance from the area." Parents were asked to collect their children from the front or side entrances.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Everyone was accounted for and no-one was injured."

A West Midland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We did get called to it but there was no patient. Initially they weren't sure whether there was anyone underneath the wall."
