A Shropshire pensioner has written his first book at the age of 80 – a children's adventure story inspired by his childhood conversations with Ironbridge coracle man Harry Rogers.

The Coracle Boy features a boy called Harry who uses his knowledge of the rivers and forests when his home town comes under attack. It has been written by Edwin Sayers, of Cleobury Mortimer.

"I began writing seriously in 1985," said Mr Sayers, who is 81 on November 10. "I had had an idea for a novel for some time and eventually got started and found that I enjoyed building up my story. But it was a slow process."

"The Coracle Boy" is published by DreamStar books, and is available at Castle Bookshop, Ludlow, and Mark Baldwin's bookshop in Cleobury Mortimer, as well as DreamStar's website and Amazon.
