Whitchurch residents have given their backing to plans to resurrect the town's carnival after an absence of eight years.
More than 150 residents have joined the Facebook group 'Bring Back Whitchurch Carnival' after councillors supported plans to bring it back to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Residents believe a carnival will breathe new life into the town and provide a boost for business.
The annual carnival was previously axed, with organisers blaming spiralling costs and lack of volunteers to help stage the event.
Whitchurch Town Council has agreed to hold a public meeting and set up a carnival committee.
