Shropshire groups share in Lottery funding

Community projects across Shropshire were celebrating today after landing a share of £860,000 in National Lottery funding.

Community projects across Shropshire were celebrating today after landing a share of £860,000 in National Lottery funding.

A community shop, pre-schools and a village hall were among the Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin projects to grab a slice of almost £70,000 handed to county projects.

Altogether, 102 projects across the West Midlands received funding totalling £864,882 from the Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All.

Tibberton Village Hall Trust, which runs the hall in the village near Newport, was among the biggest winners with a grant of £10,000.

The money will pay for improvements to windows, toilets and the kitchen.

Villager Geraldine Stokes-Harrison said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have received the grant."

Elsewhere in Telford, Admaston House Community Centre Trust also got £10,000 to transform an unused piece of land adjoining the site into a community garden. Kinlet Church of England School, near Cleobury Mortimer, got £8,250 to develop a sensory garden and gardening club.

Baschurch Pre-School Group got £4,494 to create a wildlife area and access an allotment for pre-school children and their families to use. Annie's Farm Limited, in Ackleton, was awar-ded £9,920 to commission a feasibility study into making their equine learning centre more accessible and increase community use.

Ashford and Caynham Butterflies Pre-School, near Ludlow, got £3,030 to buy furniture and equipment for its new building. In north Shropshire, Preston Brockhurst Village Hall got £9,634.

Meole Brace Church of England Primary and Nursery is to receive £4,450 grant. Hadley Old People's Rest Room will install new windows at the community centre with a £5,500 grant. Shrewsbury-based charity Headway Shropshire received £4,000.
