More than 70 beds will be axed at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital under changes announced by health chiefs.
They say the cuts are needed to fall in line with similar hospitals in the UK.
Officials at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, which runs the RSH, claim the move will ensure consistency and sustainability, with patients being cared for in the 'right place at the right time'.
Under the plans patients will also be given an estimated date of discharge when they first arrive at the hospital.
Staff will face changes as well under the plans, with a number being encouraged to apply for new vacancies.
No redundancies are planned as a result of the Transforming Care scheme.
An update on the plans shows there will be a total loss of 74 beds.
