An action group will be formed in Tenbury Wells next week to try and wrestle financial support from council chiefs ahead of the four month closure of Teme Bridge.

The bridge, which carries the main road into Tenbury, will close in January for repairs costing about £1.5 million.

Residents fear Tenbury could become an 'island' cut off from surrounding towns if the area suffers a harsh winter, potentially costing the local economy millions of pounds.

Town clerk of Tenbury Town Council, Dawn Worgan, said: "The town council is concerned the people mostly affected by the closure will be businesses.

"The town council wishes to form a group on Monday at a town council meeting to push forward the interests of Tenbury Wells."
