Mystery surrounds the future of a pub which closed in the summer, with the loss of about 15 jobs.
The Dog and Bull in Coton, near Whitchurch, has been empty since August when staff arrived for work, only to find a closure notice on the door.
The pub recently underwent a £350,000 refit and was a finalist in the Great British Pub Food Awards earlier this year.
Former head chef Fergus Mackay, who now works at the Red Lion in Whitchurch, said: "I was there for about a year after the refit and we were clocking up about 60 to 70 hours a day.
"It was still doing the business until we came to work one morning and there was a note on the door to say that the pub had closed.
"It was a good pub, with a good atmosphere, serving good food and then, out of the blue, it closed."
A spokeswoman for the pub's owners Punch Taverns said they were 'actively recruiting' for a new landlord to take over.
