Remembrance Sunday ceremonies in Shropshire

Shrewsbury will remember its fallen heroes with a civic procession and wreath-laying ceremony on Sunday. Mayor of Shrewsbury Tony Durnell will be joining civic dignitaries and members of the armed forces, as well as representatives from Shrewsbury's Dutch twin town, Zutphen.

The civic procession will leave Shrewsbury Castle at 9.15am on Sunday and will walk along with units of HM Forces and service organisations with music provided by the First Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment Bugles, Pipes and Drums.

In Telford, a Festival of Remembrance will be held at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place in conjunction with the Royal British Legion.

Mayor of Telford, Councillor Malcolm Smith, will be attending the ceremony which will include the parading of the standards by bearers from across the borough along with a reading of 100 names from the Roll of Honour.

Meanwhile in Market Drayton, the mayor, Councillor Kath Brown, will lead a parade which starts from Queen Street car park at 10.10am on Sunday.

The parade will head to St Mary's Church for a Remembrance Day service at 10.45am, then continue onto Cheshire Street where a salute will be taken. A service at the war memorial in Cheshire Street will follow.

Deputy mayor, Councillor Stephen Glover, said: "It's all about remembering that for us to be where we are today, with the freedoms that we have, people sadly had to lose their lives."

In Bridgnorth, a Remembrance Parade will start at 10.25am in the High Street and will make its way to St Leonard's Church for a service at 10.45am. A parade will then make its way to the Castle Grounds to lay wreaths at the war memorial.

In Ellesmere, a parade will take place from Talbot Street car park at 10.30am followed by a church service at St Mary's Church and refreshments in the town hall.

A parade will take place in Wem from the car park by the Co-op at about 10.50am, followed by a service at the war memorial at 10.55am and a full service in the parish church.

In Whitchurch, a church service will take place at St Alkmunds Church from 10am followed by a parade.

Bishop's Castle's annual parade to the war memorial for the Act of Remembrance will leave the Town Hall at 10.45am and reach the memorial at 11am.

In Clun, a service will be held at 10.45am at St George's Church conducted by the Reverend Ann Ogram. It will be followed by laying of wreaths at the war memorial at about 11.30am.

There will also be a Sunday service at St Swithin's Church in Clunbury followed by wreath laying at Purslow War Memorial. St Peter's Church in Clee Hill will play host to a brass band at 6.30pm.

In Oswestry, the procession will leave the Guildhall at 10.40am led by the Porthywaen Silver Band. It will go down Bailey Street to the war memorial at the Cae Glas Park gates for the two-minute silence at 11am.

They will then move into St Oswald's Parish Church for a service taken by the Reverend Simon Thorburn followed by a parade back to the Guildhall.

In Welshpool, the parade will start in Park Lane at 10.30am and will make its way to St Mary's Church for a Service of Remembrance at 11am. Wreaths will then be placed at the war memorial in Severn Street.
