Traders along Shropshire's A49 claim to have lost thousands of pounds in takings due to roadworks – as the route was named as having some of Britain's worst delays during October.
Chris and Wendy Davis, who own Affcot Lodge at Upper Affcot, near Craven Arms, said they had lost up to £8,000 in takings in the last three weeks due to the A49 being cordoned off overnight between Craven Arms and Shrewsbury for drainage repairs.
It comes as figures released by TomTom HD Traffic showed the A49 had the longest delays for any non-motorway routes in the country in October.
According to the data, the A49 between Bayston Hill and Ludlow had the three worst delays on A-roads in the whole country for October.
Four people died in two separate accidents on the road in the space of 24 hours in September.
The roadworks began on October 3 and are expected to last for about eight weeks.
Aspokesman for the Highways Agency said it is not always possible to avoid some inconvenience.
