A 62-year-old man died when he was knocked down by a car on the Shropshire border.

The man, who has not yet been named, died after the collision involving a blue Citroen Saxo in Bronington, near Whitchurch, just before 5.30pm yesterday. He died at the scene.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said the accident happened on the A495 Ellesmere Road.

She added: "The 62-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

"His family have been informed."

Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the accident to contact them on 101.

Meanwhile, two cars and a motorcycle were involved in a crash at nearby Redbrook on the outskirts of Whitchurch at 6.56am today.

A Whitchurch fire crew went to the scene. The incident caused the A525 in to be closed for a short time.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to call 0300 3333000.
