A picturesque lakeside hotel and golf club set in the valleys on the south Shropshire border is up for sale – with a cool £2.5 million asking price.

Cadmore Lodge, just outside Tenbury Wells, was built by husband and wife team John and Elizabeth Weston in the 1980s as a five-bedroomed house.

The couple were sheep farmers and also had interests in fruit growing, forestry and trout breeding, offering accommodation for fishermen and tourists.

Over the last 20 years it has evolved into a 16-bedroom hotel and country club that has become a popular haunt for private parties and weddings.

The grounds feature two fishing lakes and a nine-hole golf course carved into the contours of the valley, along with a thatch-roofed stone tower and reconstructed water mill. Inside the club, there is a 16-metre indoor swimming pool, gym, steam room and jacuzzi, as well as a restaurant.

The lodge has been owned and run by the Weston family since it was built 25 years ago but Mrs Weston said the couple were looking to retire.

Mrs Weston insisted the hotel was not closing down.

She pledged all bookings made for next year would be honoured and the facilities would remain open until a new buyer was found.

She said: "My husband and I have been trying to retire for a while now. We built the Cadmore and it's our big baby but we want to scale back the operation. We have bookings for weddings next year and they will be honoured.

"Some people seem to think the hotel is closing and that is not the case."

Mrs Weston said buyers could buy all or part of the estate. A guide price for the hotel and car park is £880,000.

Offers for the hotel, car park, two barns, the 35-acre upper estate, including the golf course, will be considered for about £1.5 million. A guide price for the hotel, car park, two barns, water mill and the 35-acre upper estate, including the golf course, is £1.7 million.

The 58-acre complex with 16-bedroom hotel, golf course, swimming pool and gym, working water mill, medieval style tower and fishing lakes could be purchased for about £2.5 million.

Mrs Weston added: "Cadmore Lodge is set in the Cadmore Valley Estate which snakes for 1.5km along the banks of the Cadmore Brook. It has a nine hole golf course, a lake stocked with trout and home to swans and other waterfowl

"The lake overflow passes under a wooden footbridge into a channel containing a weir and then via a waterfall back into the Cadmore Brook. The brook passes under a wrought iron road bridge and on past the water mill.

"The thatched water mill was constructed in 2004 and produces 5kW of electricity to power. It heats the mill building and charges the golf carts.

The Millennium Tower was built in 2000 to resemble something from the middle ages." The tower was built to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Berrington Mill, which stands just a short distance to the north on the Cadmore Brook.
