A teenager was allegedly raped three times after being grabbed by a man while she was standing on a platform at Wellington Railway Station.

Officers are describing it as a 'serious sexual assault' and say the woman was first attacked on the platform itself.

Further assaults are then believed to have taken place on the footbridge over Whitchurch Drive and on a footpath leading to the Leegomery estate, near Grainger Drive. The alleged attacks happened between 1am and 2.45am on Friday.

The teenager was carrying a bag of clothes which was reported missing following the assaults – and police today issued an appeal to trace it in the hope it could lead to her attacker, described as a mixed race male aged in his late teens to early 20s, and about 6ft tall.

Detective Inspector Mike Nally said: "The victim was carrying a Co-op carrier bag which contained a long red dress with a round neck and is described as having short sleeves and a pair of dark brown snakeskin shoes with a high heel, size seven.

"At some point during the incident taking place, the victim left the bag and police are eager to trace the bag or any of its contents.

"We would also urge any witnesses to the assaults to come forward. If you live in the area and heard anything unusual or a disturbance of some kind then please contact us."
