Jaguar's new £355 million engine plant near Telford has been given the go-ahead – and the decision has been hailed as 'fantastic news' by Shropshire business chiefs.
The 800,000 sq ft plant on the i54 business park will create 5,000 new jobs in the area, on top of 800 set to be created at the plant itself.
And Richard Sheehan, managing director of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, said today the move would raise the profile of the area, and could draw other investment into the area to the benefit of Shropshire businesses.
He said: "The granting of planning permission is fantastic news for the area. It will not only provide opportunities for suppliers, but will raise awareness of the area from an inward investment perspective and will be of a high enough profile to be visible right across the world.
"It's a tremendous boost for the area."
