One of Shropshire's best known restaurants is planning to expand, just months after losing a coveted Michelin star.

La Becasse in Ludlow was stripped of its star in October after four years of holding the ultimate mark of culinary excellence.

But bosses are planning a comeback by outfitting an old store room and increasing the amount of tables available.

Head chef Will Holland is hoping to reclaim the star.

The application for the changes to the grade II listed building in Corve Street has been submitted to Shropshire Council planning chiefs.

A letter submitted to the council by architects says: "There is a redundant store room which can be accessed from the adjacent dining area and kitchen.

"The room in question is quite plain in appearance with modern joinery. The ceiling is of painted hardboard, the walls of simple modern plaster and a plain concrete floor.

"The intention of the proposed works is convert this store room to create a new additional dining area accessible from the existing adjacent dining area and the kitchen.

"The existing staircase is to be removed, keeping it for possible reuse, and blocking up the stairwell opening to separate the new dining area from the store room above."

According to developers a blocked window and hatch will be reopened and an unused doorway removed.

The letter adds: "The existing redundant service lifts are to be removed and the floors, walls and ceiling made good.

"A new stone/slate tile floor finish is to be lain on the existing concrete floor. The painted hardboard ceiling is to be replaced with a modern fore-resistant plasterboard ceiling."
