A 14-year-old cyclist has died following a collision with a car between Oswestry and Welshpool, police said today.

The teenager, who has not been named, died in the Birmingham Children's Hospital yesterday.

The accident happened on the A483 trunk road between Four Crosses and Arddleen on Thursday.

Dyfed-Powys Police today renewed their appeal for witnesses. The tragedy happened at the Penrhos junction on the A483.

The teenager had been out cycling with a friend at the time of the accident. He was riding a BMX pushbike, which was in collision with a black Volkswagen Polo.

"We are looking for anyone who saw these youngsters in this area around the time of the accident, which was 4.40pm on Thursday," Sergeant Sean Westlake, of the Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit, said.

The A483 north of Welshpool, was closed for six hours to allow police to carry out their investigations following the accident.
