Investigators today appealed for people taking photographs at the time a plane crashed near Welshpool to come forward as they continue to piece together how the tragedy happened.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who was out taking photos or video footage at the time of the crash in which two men died.

The twin-engine Piper Navajo PA31-325 plane came down on Long Mountain, near Leighton, shortly after noon on Wednesday.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw anything out of the ordinary between 11am and 11.30am

One of the victims has been named locally as experienced pilot Bob Jones, who set up and ran Mid Wales Airport at Welshpool.

It is also feared Steve Carr, 55, from Ruthin, in north Wales, was the other man on board the plane.

Dyfed-Powys Police said formal identification would take place over the next few days.

Police would also like to speak to anyone who may have heard the plane fly overhead.
