Wind turbine plan near Wem dropped
Plans to put up a 20 metre wind turbine in the countryside near Wem have been withdrawn after dozens of residents objected.
Plans to put up a 20 metre wind turbine in the countryside near Wem have been withdrawn after dozens of residents objected.
The micro-generation turbine was earmarked for land at Ivy House Farm in Weston under Redcastle.
But now applicant A & J Whittaker has withdrawn the bid after about 40 residents raised objections, claiming the noise and visual impact would have been too great.
However, in a letter to planners at Shirehall, agents for the applicant said a fresh application could be imminent for a different location on the other side of the A49.
In his letter Daniel Bowden said: "I am awaiting to hear back from the MoD in relation to a possible re-siting to the other side of the A49."
The planned 20kW turbine would have had a blade diameter of 12.8 metres, meaning it would have stood up to 26.4 metres in height from blade tip to the ground.
A design and access statement in support of the plans said the applicant was seeking to slash soaring energy bills.
A flurry of similar applications have recently gone in across north Shropshire, including Tetchill, Hordley and Adderley.
