A man living above his family's Chinese takeaway in Ludlow today described how he was woken by a 'massive wallop' as a car crashed into the front of it.
The Cheung family live above their China Garden business in New Road and closed up at about 11 last night.
But Leon Cheung, 36, whose father owns the takeaway, said that about an hour later they were woken as a red Volkswagen Golf smashed into the shop.
He said his family would be assessing the full extent of the damage today before deciding whether to open tonight.
He said: "It has done a massive amount of damage to the shop. But we have to be thankful it was not much, much worse.
"If it had happened an hour or so earlier we would still have been in the shop. And even at the time it happened, there is normally a steady stream of people walking past on the way back home from pubs."
Mr Cheung said he had gone to bed and was asleep at the time of the crash.
"Because of the wet roads the first noise I heard was like a bike skidding. Then the next thing I knew there was this massive wallop and the whole house shook."
Fire crews from Ludlow also attended the scene and were there for nearly half-an-hour making the vehicle safe.
Police said a woman had been arrested and was being questioned today.
