Two men jailed for carrying out a 'sustained assault' on another man who later needed a metal plate inserted in his head have had appeals against the length of their sentences thrown out by top judges.

Matthew Speed, 27, of Wayland Close, and Gavin Pilsbury, 27, of George Street, left their victim Jonathan Wisener with smashed facial bones after attacking him outside Whitchurch Civic Centre in May 2010.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court last July, Speed and Pilsbury were each jailed for three years, having both been convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Yesterday they asked Lord Justice Davis, Mr Justice Treacy and Mr Justice Blair, sitting at London's Criminal Appeal Court, to reduce their sentences.

But the appeals were thrown out, with Mr Justice Treacy criticising the pair for showing 'no remorse'.
