A woman who died in a car crash in Mid Wales was a 24-year-old from the Llanidloes area, police said today.

The victim, who has not yet been named, died when the silver Daewoo Matiz she was driving collided with a black Ford Mondeo on the A470 at Llangurig at about 6.35pm on Wednesday.

Force spokeswoman Catharine Evan-Williams confirmed the woman's age and where she was from.

The incident happened four miles outside Llangurig, towards Rhayader.

The road was closed for about four hours while emergency crews remained on scene carrying out investigations and police diversions were used to guide traffic away from the incident.

Powys coroner Louise Hunt has been informed. Anyone with information is asked to call 0845 3302000.
