Calls have been made to secure the future of Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre amid fears its budget could be slashed as part of multi-million pound savings.

Clive Leworthy, chairman of Craven Arms Town Council, said the centre was a key tourist attraction and called for people to come forward with ideas to attract more visitors to its future.

Shropshire Council has proposed cutting the centre's budget by £85,000 in the next two years.

The plans are part of £25 million planned savings which are due to be discussed by Shropshire Council's cabinet on Wednesday.

The centre also houses Craven Arms' library, local history centre, and council service information point.

It comes after officials at Craven Arms Community Centre were forced to cut hours last year to make £15,000 of savings.

Councillor Leworthy said: "I'm very concerned about the future of Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre. It is an important asset for the town and brings lots of visitors in."
