Gerald Dakin, Shropshire Council member for Whitchurch South, revealed CCTV cameras will be installed at the town's station later this year as part of a new system which could cost about £60,000.
Councillor Dakin said the project was supported by members of the Shropshire, Telford and the Marches Strategic Rail Group.
He said: "I am delighted that the station is getting these cameras. We have been wanting these for some time – probably for about the last five years.
"The system will be installed later this year and monitored from Shrewsbury."
Other improvements to the station also being looked at include car parking.
The new system is expected to be monitored from Shrewsbury.
