Life's Too Short star Warwick Davis went back to his Star Wars and Harry Potter roots when he stopped off in Shropshire to headline at a one-day sci-fi convention.

Warwick, who shot to fame in Star Wars and then proved a hit in Harry Potter, was in Telford to attend the get-together at the International Convention Centre.

Thousands of sci-fi fans descended on the venue on Saturday for the Midlands Comic Con event but Warwick's was not the only famous face in town.

The convention also attracted fellow actor Matthew Lewis, who plays Harry Potter's loyal friend Neville Longbottom in the movie series, as well as Tom Hopper and Adetomiwa Edun from the BBC TV series Merlin and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Queues the for convention began forming at 6am and hundreds were already in line when the doors opened at 9am.

Thousands of fancy dress-wearing visitors packed inside during the course of the day and visitors not only rubbed shoulders with the stars but also with wizards, aliens and robots.

Warwick, who is 3ft 6in tall and played Willow in Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi and magic teacher Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter movies was the star attraction.

Warwick said he was a huge Star Wars fan before his big break came, as it was his first cinematic experience when he went to see it back in 1977.

"Little did I know I would go on to appear in two of the films and have a screen career," he said.

"I think I would have gone to conventions like this one when I was younger. Unlike stage acting, films don't give you the chance to interact with the audience but at events like this I can meet fans face to face and hear exactly what they like and don't like.

"I have been so lucky in that I have been able to fulfill ambitions and comedy has always been an ambition of mine so I was delighted to work on Life's Too Short. You seem to make more of a connection with comedy.

"The other day a woman who had to be in her 70s dragged me into her car to give me a big kiss because she loved the show and I made her laugh."
