Organisers of Welshpool Carnival are being forced to reschedule this year's event because of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, it was revealed today.
Members of the event's committee said they were hoping this year's carnival, which is normally held on the last Bank Holiday Monday in May, could now be held in August.
Trish Hodges, secretary of the carnival, said she was hoping the event would be held on August 27 but no exact date had yet been confirmed.
She said: "Because of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations we have had to reschedule this year's event.
"We're still in the process of confirming a date but we're hoping it can be held on the Bank Holiday Monday of August 27."
Town Councillor Alan Crowe said he hoped the event could be rescheduled.
"It's a traditional event but it's just unfortunate that the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations fall on the date it is normally held," he said.
Councillor Estelle Bleivas, Mayor of Welshpool, said Welshpool's annual carnival was one of the biggest events the town held.
She said: "It attracts hundreds of people every year and I look forward to hearing about when it will take place this year.
"It's unfortunate that this year's date has clashed with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations but I'm sure it will still be a success whenever it is held," she added.
