The planned site of a controversial wind turbine on the outskirts of Cleobury Mortimer has been moved – amid fears that it would have been too prominent on the town's skyline.

The 50KW turbine, which is planned for land at Mawley Town Farm, will now be built on lower ground nearer to the farm buildings if permission is granted by Shropshire Council.

Fears had been raised the turbine, which will stand 29 metres tall, would be visible from across Cleobury Mortimer and from St Mary's Church under initial plans which would have seen it set up on higher ground.

Applicant Adrian Robinson has now submitted new plans which have found favour with members of Cleobury Mortimer Parish Council, who raised no objections after a site visit.

A design and access statement submitted by Entrust Planning Consultants on behalf of Mr Robinson says: "The initial site proved to be too prominent in the landscape and in particular would have had a significant visual impact over the town of Cleobury Mortimer."

The statement also claims there will be minimal impact on the nearby Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Wyre Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest.
