Wellington Leisure Centre, which has undergone a multi-million pound facelift, will finally reopen next month.

The flagship development has been plagued by delays but it will throw open its doors on March 12 – a year after it was closed.

Posters have been put up across the borough announcing the opening date.

Telford & Wrekin Council has refused to give details of the opening with officials saying they were due to issue a press statement on Monday.

However, the Mayor of Wellington, Councillor Lesley Street, said the building was 'fantastic' and had incorporated all the 'modern ways of life in the design'.

She said: "They really have done a beautiful job of it. Nobody will be disappointed with what has taken place."

Wellington Councillor Phil Morris-Jones said it 'was the best thing to have happened to Wellington for over 30 years, and we will be glad to get the building back'.

The scheme was part of Telford & Wrekin Council's Borough Towns Initiative.

The ambitious project has also seen a new register office being built and the existing library replaced by a state-of-the-art building including offices.
