Politicians in Shropshire have urged rail bosses to introduce a minimum of a twice daily direct rail service from the county to London.
Politicians in Shropshire have urged rail bosses to introduce a minimum of a twice daily direct rail service from the county to London.
Four operators are bidding for the franchise, with campaigners pressing for the winning firm to bring back a direct service between the county and the capital as part of their bid.
North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson and Shropshire Council leader Keith Barrow yesterday met Richard Parry, managing director of First Group, at Westminster to discuss his organisation's proposal.
Mr Paterson said: "We would like all operators bidding for the West Coast franchise to be asked to consider options allowing a minimum twice daily London return service, morning and evening, stopping at Telford, Shrewsbury, Gobowen, Wrexham and Chester."
The preferred bidders are First Group, Virgin Trains, Abellio and Keolis.
