The wife of Bucket List man Ben Hughes today revealed he had been given a matter of weeks to live.
Mr Hughes, 28, from Harlescott in Shrewsbury, was diagnosed with chronic lung failure in November and given just months to live. Despite his illness he set out on a mission to fulfil his dream ambitions in the time he had left.
But today his wife Ayla, 24, said following a recent bout of pneumonia, Mr Hughes's health had taken a turn for the worse and he has been advised by doctors that he now has only weeks to live.
Ben given days to weeks to live as bucket list adventure ends
He has now decided to stop his bucket list campaign to concentrate on his health and spend his time with his loved ones.
His goals had included visiting every Premier League football ground in the country and meeting music legend David Bowie and celebrity chefs such as Jamie Oliver and Marco Pierre White.
His campaign has attracted more than 2,000 followers on Facebook and has seen Mr and Mrs Hughes travel the country.
Mrs Hughes said: "We were not expecting it to be long but to actually hear someone say 'days to weeks as opposed to weeks to months' it really makes it seem real.
"We've been assured it will be slow and gentle with Ben being made as comfortable as possible but the next few weeks are going to be the scariest, saddest and most challenging few weeks of my life.
"I'm not just losing my husband – I'm losing my best friend, my soul mate and my whole way of life and until this week I'd never really thought about after."
Some of Mr Hughes's achievements include meeting his favourite band Suede, and taking a tour around the set of ITV soap Emmerdale.
He also visited the House of Commons, as well as the grounds of Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City.
Mr Hughes has dined in the restaurants of celebrity chefs Jamie Oliver and Marco Pierre White.
The couple also organised a New Year's Eve fundraiser at the Brooklands Hotel in Shrewsbury which raised nearly £3,000.
