A planned 60-bed nursing home in Cleobury Mortimer will bring up to 80 jobs to the town, it has been revealed.
The nursing home is earmarked to be built on the Cleobury Precision Engineering site.
It is part of a development put forward by developers Blue Square Commercial.
Priority for the jobs – which will include cleaners, gardeners, a home manager, nursing and care staff – will go to local people. It is hoped a planning application could be submitted to Shropshire Council within six weeks.
The news was revealed by Chris Gellion, of chartered architects Nicol Thomas, at a local joint committee meeting last night. More than 80 people attended and saw preliminary designs.
He said: "We are looking at between 60 and 80 jobs being created and the principle would be towards local people in the first instance."
Jenny McCrorie, of Cleobury Patients' Voice, called for project leaders to open a dialogue with Cleobury Mortimer Medical Practice.
