Proposals were unveiled today to extend a primary school in Telford, creating classes for 100 extra pupils by the start of 2013.
The plans for Newdale Primary School in Marlborough Way, Newdale, will also bring more jobs. School chiefs look set to win planning permission from Telford & Wrekin Council this week for a three-classroom extension.
The school currently has 353 pupils in classes from reception up to year 6.
But headteacher Rachel Cook said that the extension would allow for up to 460 children to be taught at the site, including at the on-site nursery unit.
"The school was always intended to be a 14 class school. The original plan was for the school to grow in size along with the development of new houses in the local area," Miss Cook added.
"The school has a great reputation with an 'outstanding' Ofsted grade, which of course attracts parents to our school."
Plans are due to be discussed at Telford & Wrekin Council's plans board on Wednesday.
Council planning officers have recommended the scheme for approval.
They say that 'the school has outgrown its current buildings and the new facilities will have a positive impact on community facilities and the amenity of the school'.
The extension, which will be built on the far south west corner of the building, will also contain an office, toilets and storeroom.
And extra car parking space for staff will also be created.
Miss Cook said that the additional children will mean that more classes will be created and that more teaching staff will need to be taken on as numbers increase.
But Miss Cook added that she could not say how many yet.
She said: "The plan at this point in time is that contractors come onto site in July and handover the new build in December 2012 with the hope that all classes will be functional and in operation by February 2013."
