A Tesco superstore planned for Tenbury Wells will be a one-off design not seen anywhere else across Britain, it has been revealed.

Tesco says the supermarket, which will be built on the old cattle market off Teme Street, will include design features to mirror Tenbury's history and heritage.

Planners rejected an initial application from Tesco last year after slamming the proposed design.

Sophie Akokhia, regional corporate affairs manager for Tesco, said an artist helped come up with ideas for the new plans which were rubberstamped last Wednesday.

She said: "The store in Tenbury Wells will be the smallest supermarket we offer. It will be about 30 per cent smaller than the supermarket in Ludlow.

"It has been suggested that the application we resubmitted for the supermarket was the same as last year but this is not the case. We have worked hard to change the design from the original one submitted last year and this supermarket will be unique to Tenbury, it will not be repeated elsewhere."

Pedestrian walkways will have steel artwork depicting mistletoe and a walkway by the river Teme will be widened with a seating area.
